Up here is a lonely place,
He used to say.

You want this life all to yourself,
That’s why you are lonely.
Don’t you need company?

Company is a complicated choice,
He replied.

Yes, and also a whole other dimension,
Where you learn to appreciate every cave and crater you stumble upon.
Up there doesn’t have to be a lonely place anymore.

But he smiled.
And every word I meant to say falls short.

Because I realized,
That writing about his loneliness,
is a lonely place of my choice.
