Seashore

I dreamt of places and friends,
that smelled of the sea.

Salty and sticky,
like home away from home.

I closed my eyes,
walking myself closer to the shore.

I licked my lips,
tasting the wind that blows my face.

I listened to the waves,
harboring the crackle when they crash.

I remembered,
the smile on the faces,
the warmth of embraces shared.

But the sea washed them away,
cleansing the sands of footprints,
and there I was awakened.

I just dreamt of the sea,
the people I used to love,
in all its glory and regret.

And the memory lingers,
like a faint smell of the sea,
like a layer of salt on my skin.
